"Brindle" Genome
This page will be migrated over to the "sand" genome page, as we conclude our test breedings, it seems that brindle and Sand are working hand in hand genetically there maybe some Modifiers that are working together. Genetically right now not 100% sure whats going on, but our brindles look like they are in-fact torts to some degree - Note added Oct. 2, 2018
This is a very old school genome probably older then sand and therefore not very well known at all, I'm in the process of tracking breedings and will keep all my notes updated here. I will be trying to come up with Genetics based off what is known in the "Sand" Genome and modifying them to work with the Brindles. Also will be giving new varieties their own names when it arrises.
* No I'm not a genetics expert, but I have years of knowledge breeding and I study my genetics on a monthly basis, These work for me and thats all that matters as far as I'm concerned. As I don't like putting -Unknown - on things.

Genetics
(I will be using the a(moB) for the gene for brindle, this may be wrong and as i'm not a genetics expert i'm not saying its right, but that is what I will be using for now. )
Currently unsure if this gene is sex linked or not.

Iridescent Fur In Brindles!?
The brindle Genome has a very unique feature on the rats. As the rats molt Into their adult fur they go through swim drastic color changes. On a Black rat they go from black to a red and then back to black but the fur remains ticked through out and from what I’ve noticed they are iridescent in color. In indirect sunlight such as in the house they look pitch black the fur is very shiny due to the iridescent and translucent fur. But in the sunlight their true colors are seen with the ticking becoming more visible on their base. Of course pictures will never do these rats justice. But I’ve tried my best to capture this.
As you can see in the close up of the fur the fur is ticked like agouti with white tips. The white fur is translulike a polar bears and the black fur is iridescent which in the right light almost has a bluish hue to it like a prism. These rats are black based but (technically NOT) black. They have a modifier in the fur. As of now I’m not sure if this modifier is due to the dad being a Brindle and the moms being Tort.
I will update once the standard to Brindle pups start molting. But as of now they too have developed super soft cotton like fur, this line is all standard furred rats so I know 100% it’s not satin. And you can tell by the pics these are none satin rats.

Both of the following rats are from my Brindle line, Same Dad, two different moms. As of now I'm thinking that the brindle genome causes the iridescent fur. As I didn't own the dad from birth its hard for me to guess what type of changes his fur want through as he grew. I'll be updating info on him, when I get a chance with some pics of his development that I have from his breeder.
Development
Babies are born their solid colors and start developing brindle patterns at a week old, coloring comes in on the head first mottled, and slowly through the body, with a few hairs hear and there.
- Shadow Black Iridescent - On a black base the coloring is a darker red/maroon during molt. During first molt rats will develop a distinct molting pattern where the adult fur molts up the sides to the back, giving the young animal a funky dorsal stripe lacking all top coat, The undercoat development is translucent and the fur changes color. I have discovered that all of our rats that molt this way have developed Iridescent fur, where the under coat is translucent like a polar bears, and the middle coat developes ticked coloring , such as agouti type ticking, where the top coat is iridescent causing the rats to get more brilliant in the light.
X<:3( )~~~
( this is only noticed on the Brindle Line of rats, or "Sand" genome torts that have been crossed with Brindle. Our Standard "Sand" Genome rats have not had this sort of development! )
All pictures are of the same rat in development.
- On Khaki the coloring comes in a lighter beige color, the rats have a whiter head which slowly gets darker with age final color is dark khaki, Fur has light brown/grey ticking, undercoat to match top coat, to match the color of Khaki. Belly silver. Eyes dark ruby. As the rat grows it will get more darker in color producing more of a Khaki color with Dark Khaki ticking in the fur, Base color remains lighter Sand colored. Rats Can-Not be confused with Beige!!
Comparisons Pics
Khaki vs Beige; Khaki ( aka Re sand) is way darker then beige and is true color to its name, eyes are dark ruby, Even though they are barn almost PEW in color they get darker with age, After the first molt they are rich, dark Khaki color these rats have ticking on the hair shaft, but under coat is a pale sand ( beach sand colored) colored. Belly is silver creamy color, Ears, and paws are pink!. Tail is darker khaki color.
**Please Note. Variety Name change - RE Sand has been changed to Khaki!
